About Rose & Spool

Hi! Welcome to Rose & Spool! I'm Nancy, the owner and creative director. I'm also the chief coffee-maker, cat herder, and fabric hoarder, because when you're an entrepreneur you have to multi-task.

My sewing journey started with my mother when I was a kid. She taught me to sew on her classic burgundy Husqvarna Viking machine.

I started with doll clothes and progressed to my own clothes, and then to my first quilt for my dorm room and then things for my first home with my husband and my daughter's nursery. Along the way I also learned to love the meditative creative joy of cross stitch (something I also hope you'll see coming to Rose & Spool soon).

Around the time my daughter was born, I took a (20 year) detour from sewing into a job in the scrapbooking and crafts industry. But even while doing that, somehow sewing kept creeping into my creative endeavors. I sewed on my pages, and even made small sewing projects for marketing clients.

And then, a few years ago, I decided to try teaching my daughter a couple of simple sewing projects as part of her homeschooling. She loved it, but most importantly I remembered...so do I. Through teaching her I rediscovered my own passion for sewing. Before long, the fabric had completely taken over my studio and my creative hours were filled entirely with the sound of a sewing machine, as they had been years ago.

Rose & Spool was born out of that passion, and my desire to share it with others.
